Day of the Dead – part of the synth soundtrack series

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Year: 2008

Score: Tyler Bates

Verdict: The 2008 remake.  Action and horror come together for this zombie fare.  Using quick scene cuts, and atmospheric music, so far so unoriginal tbh. We watch as American kids trying to “get it on” find their town under siege by Zombies and American forces.

A surprising but fairly brief appearance by the respected British actor Ian McNeice.  adding some momentary cache to this watchable if not particularly inspiring Romero remake.

Two two-dimensional Characters are left to fend and outwit the marauding Zombie hordes as communication to the outside world is broken.

Musically speaking there’s nothing definite, just effects and flavoring for the rampant soulless repartee.

Returning to the lab / bunker where the experiment went awry the remaining survivors.

Directed by Steve Miner (House, Warlock amd lake Placid fame) this film could have been so much better. Yes, it’s perfectly watchable, the actors commit to their roles. But, it lacks atmosphere imo.

The sonics are extremely standard.  I would have liked to have heard a more inventive score. With sound design elements that sounded hand-crafted rather than perhaps what they are – from a sample pack called “horror-movle” or some such other.

This blog entry is a bonus to my synth soundtracks series where I watch and review the movies listed as having the best synth scores by THREE different websites to wit:
